Hey everyone, this is The_SynchroGuy, and I am here to talk about the latest Yu-Gi-Oh protagonist, Yuga Ohdo! For those of you that don’t know, Yuga is the main protagonist of the latest Yu-Gi-Oh anime series, “Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens”.

This series is made by Bridge studio, and it’s much different from the other Yu-Gi-Oh spin offs we’ve previously had. For starters, its focus is not on the standard Yu-Gi-Oh trading card game. Instead, it focuses on their spin-off of Yu-Gi-Oh, Rush Duels. And as for the characters, they’re younger than the other main Yu-Gi-Oh characters we’ve had in the past. Young as in they’re almost in middle school. Like a couple of them are 5th and/or 6th graders. Which is understandable because the show is trying to target a younger audience.

Regardless, I’m not here to talk about the show, I’m here to talk about Yuga! Real quick though, there will be some spoilers on the series, so if you don’t want to be spoiled on anything, then do not read this any further! YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!!

As you can probably already tell, I’ve been watching Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens since it first started. And it’s definitely different than the other previous shows, as I explained above. But as I continued to watch this show I came to really appreciate Yuga.

Not because he’s an amazing duelist. He’s lost a couple of duels already at this point, so he’s not like unbeatable. But he still knows how to play his cards and build a deck. Instead, the reason why I’ve come to like Yuga is because of his personality.

To help explain what I mean, let me give some more detail. In this universe, Yuga is the creator of Rush Duels. He made it because he wanted something different from the standard game. And it starts to become a huge success. However, the company responsible for supporting the original game didn’t like how this new “Rush Duels” game was implemented into their systems and are looking to erase its existence.

At this point in the series, there have been a couple of attempts made to get rid of it. And every time, all of Yuga’s friends are freaking out about what’s going to happen. Like when Yuga is taking part in a duel that will determine the fate of Rush Duels, they’re worried about what’s going to happen and pray for his safety/victory. Meanwhile, Yuga is having a ball; a blast because everyone is using the duel system that he created.

He also can’t help but wonder what his opponent has up their sleeve. He looks forward to seeing what crazy play/strategy his opponent is going to do next. Not only that, but you can say he’s a bit of a gambler. As in, he prefers playing in some situations where he doesn’t know what’s going to happen. He hasn’t played anything that’s very luck based (like cards that require you to roll a die or flip a coin). Instead, it’s more like he likes wondering what he and his opponent are going to draw since you don’t always know what you’re going to get. And he likes taking his chances on trying to draw one or more specific cards he needs in order to win the duel.

Overall though, the thing I’ve really liked about him and wanted to focus on was his mindset during his duels. Or any duel, really. Even the ones he spectates. Everyone is usually so concerned and worried about losing, but Yuga is hardly ever phased by it. I mean, someone has managed to throw him off his game before and got him to lose his usual self for a bit, but besides that, he’s not all concerned about losing.

It’s not like he doesn’t know what’s up for stake. He’s a smart boy. Like really smart. He makes machines/devices/gadgets, which he calls his “roads”, and he is able to read the situation quite well. He even tries to figure out a way to understand his opponents on who they are and tries to find a way to make them smile so that everyone is having fun. And just when things are about to go bad, we learn that, off-screen, he came prepared; being one step ahead of his opponent.

But the thing I’ve really enjoyed about Yuga the most is how he perceives every duel. For example, in one of the more recent episodes, one of his friends was in a big situation because his opponent keeps on using Trap Cards. So much that he starts to freak out. Just when he thinks he’s done for, Yuga goes to him and gets him to look at his situation in a new light. Where instead of being angry or afraid of what kind of traps are going to be springed, get excited.

And it’s that moment that got me to really like Yuga. I usually see people get angry or upset whenever their opponent does something that would make them lose. Yuga though, he will just laugh it off over how fun the duel was and look forward to the next one. He doesn’t care if he loses, because he knows that losing is not the end.

Heck, I’m willing to bet that if he would lose one of the major duels that would end up destroying Rush Duels, he wouldn’t sulk forever. Instead, he would start planning on his new version of the game. Whenever someone would destroy his road, he would then go and make a new one. No matter what, he’s going to find ways to do something that not only he would enjoy, but so would everyone else.

His attitude and personality is what I describe, in my book, a good mindset to have. A lot of people like to have a negative attitude towards almost anything and everything. But Yuga is hardly ever like that because he knows nothing good ever comes from thinking like that. After all, we’re here, living and breathing, because we want to find something fun to do with our lives. Why? Because things would be boring if we didn’t.

Yuga, in my eyes, is one of the good role models you can ever have. Someone who is always trying to create new stuff. Someone that likes charing into unknown territory because you never know what you’re going to get from it. Someone that is always having fun, regardless of the current situation, and is always trying to help everyone so that they can smile and have fun. After all, that’s all Yuga wants. Just to see everyone have fun, and for himself to try to have fun every single day.

Of course though, these are not my overall final thoughts since the show still has some seasons/arcs left to go before it ends. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but my wish is to see Yuga stay the same as he is now. He has such a good heart, a good personality, and a good attitude towards anything and everything. If you ever need to look for a good Yu-Gi-Oh role model, then go checkout Yuga Ohdo. I guarantee you he will be a good one.

Thank you guys for reading this! I mostly wrote because Yuga is the kind of guy I want to see people take notes from. I mean, after all, people get upset over a lot of things that Konami does when it comes to Yu-Gi-Oh. And I guess you can kind of say I want to see more people get excited about some of these things and come up with some crazy decks/ideas that we can implement because of them. Kind of wishful thinking, but I still think a lot of people could appreciate adopting Yuga’s mentality. Mostly because I want to see everyone smiling and laughing as we play our favorite game and talk about our plans for tomorrow.
