Hey everyone, this is The_SynchroGuy, and welcome to “YGO Recap Week!” The weekly series where we go over just about any and all Yu-Gi-Oh! related goodness so you don’t miss out on anything.

We received some really interesting news this past week for some upcoming stuff, and had quite a couple of new reveals. Nothing too major on the new reveals, but the news and moves that Konami has done is where I think your eyes should be focused on today. I know for certain many of you will like one little thing.

TCG News

Power of the Elements Cover Pack

The entire set of Power of the Duelists has been revealed, and it has revealed some very interesting stuff. If you want to see the new World Premiere cards being revealed, scroll down to the Card Reveal section of this post. But there’s one thing I want to talk about here.

It has been revealed that the new Morphtronic/Power Tool cards are going to be the OCG imports for this set. The reason this is interesting, and also surprising, is that this support is the support that was released in the Duelist of the Pyroxene in the OCG. Basically, the Earth Legendary Duelist Pack set for us here in the TCG. Or, so we thought.

Duelist of the Pyroxene Cover Pack

Now normally we would get these sets months after their OCG release date. Just like with Synchro Storm and Duels from the Deep. But now, it looks like we won’t be getting that set here in the TCG.

Why Konami made this decision, I do not know. It is what it is. So this means that the new Amazoness and Ishizu support will be released in other sets. It’s anyone’s guess where we’ll get the Amazoness stuff, and the Ishizu stuff might be all released in the Magnificent Maidens box in November.

While it sucks we won’t be getting the Earth Legendary Duelist set, there is one cool thing we’re getting in return.

Dark World Structure Deck

https://www.yugioh-card.com/en/products/sr13/

We are going to be getting the Dark World R Structure Deck this coming December! This is cool because after we got the Machina R Structure Deck, the rest of the R Structure Decks the OCG has been getting, we have been getting them as imports in side sets (the latest one being the new Agent stuff in Ghost From the Past season 2). So it’s cool to see that we’re actually getting the structure deck this time. And it’s a good one too.

We don’t know how this structure deck is going to impact the TCG meta, but Darkworld is a deck you do not want to underestimate. There’s a very good chance that Darkworld is going to make a return, and good thing it won’t be as an FTK this time. But if you’ve seen what they can do with their latest support, well… best start to get ready for them.

Master Duel

Well after a little over half a year, Master Duel is finally getting a casual duel mode! I can’t tell how many times I’ve seen people say they’re sick of having to face meta related decks. Now though, if you’re happy with where your current rank is at, then you can keep it there and have the kind of duels you want with this new mode. This will definitely make a lot of players happy.

And it looks like we will be getting a new setting to make it so you can have only duel animation be shown. Along with some adjustments to the daily missions. Don’t know what that means, but it would be nice if we can either get other missions to do. Or better yet, an increase in the amount of gems we get for when we complete said missions.

And finally it looks like we’re getting a new event. The Duelist Cup! No doubt it’s for all of you elite duelists out there. Rank games were all just practice for the real deal. Now we don’t know what kind of prizes there will be for this event, but a chance to show off why I’m the King of Games is something I would gladly take part in. :sunglasses:

Yu-Gi-Oh! Meta

TCG:

Honestly, not much to report on this end. I know there was a Remote Duel Event, and the San Diego Comic Con event that took place this past weekend, but have yet to see any reports or deck profiles from it. In the meantime, here are a couple of deck lists from Yugioh Top Decks that showcase a couple of different decks that managed to win their locals recently.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywD-O-A1Mtw

While this is just from the local experience, the fact that they won their locals is good enough if you’re just looking to play at your locals for the time being.

Speaking of locals, the Premier Event for Power of the Elements is this weekend! If you’re looking to get your hands on some of these cards ahead of their official release date, then you’ll want to take part in this at your local OTS store. If you’re looking to take part in it, best of luck with your duels and your pulls. And make sure you come prepared and recognize what your goal is at this event.

Card Reveals

Garura, Wings of Resonant Life Card Reveal

First off, we have the reveal of the new Super Poly target coming out in POTE for the TCG that’s really gonna help out Fusion related decks. This card is similar to that of Mudragon, in terms of summoning conditions. The difference here is that Mudragon needs the 2 monsters to have the same Attribute but different Types, while the new guy needs 2 monsters with the same Type and Attribute. Just with different names.

This card is definitely gonna come in handy against some decks like Marincess and Dragon Link. And its effects aren’t too bad either. Dealing double battle damage is always nice. But that draw effect can be quite good too. Especially if you’re using something that sends cards from your Extra Deck to the GY. Like Nadir Servant or Dogmatika Punishment.

Ghoti Card Reveal

Then we have the rest of the new World Premiere cards from POTE. Some of them being part of the new Ghoti archetype. One of the gimmicks of this archetype revolves a bit around the banish gimmick. As in, some of these guys seem to enjoy getting banished, and it’s needed for the Tuner monsters so you can Synchro Summon during the opponent’s turn.

And seeing as how their cards are pretty generic, you can mix it with other Fish related cards. And we actually received a new Spell Card that’s like a “Spellbook of Knowledge” for Fish, Sea Serpent, and Aqua decks. And since it banishes the monster you are sending away, this can fit well with the Ghoti archetype.

Right now though, we’re probably going to have to wait for the rest of the Ghoti support coming up in Darkwing Blast before we can see this archetype do something. At least, possibly in the TCG metagame. But it hasn’t stopped people from hoping for this archetype to be good (especially since “Oh Fish” was bought out once the rest of the archetype was revealed). If you’re wondering what this archetype can do with its current support, you might want to scroll down onto the deck section of this post and find out.

Then we have the rest of the new World Premiere cards. We have a new Link-2 monster that has some questionable arrows, but has a pretty good negate effect. And since it’s Link-2, it’s something for Splights to look into.

We also have a new Level 8 monster that can summon itself from the GY to help fuel some Extra Deck plays. (Or be a beater.) And a new Trap Monster that can try to mess with your opponent’s plays if they need to use monsters of a certain type and/or attribute.

Also, one of the OCG imports, that’s not Morphtronic related, is the new Lady of Lament card, which is part of the Lair of Darkness series. This was a VJump promo for the OCG, so we weren’t sure when we were going to get this, but now we know. And this one will be a good one for the Lair of Darkness strategy.

Miscellaneous

Gansley of the Big Five

https://www.yugioh-card.com/en/play/alternate_format_tournaments/

Konami has recently added additional information to some of the alternate formats that they have created, which help answer a couple of questions and/or concerns that players may have had. And for those of you that don’t know, these alternate formats are ways for your local OTS can try and spice things up in Yu-Gi-Oh! whenever everyone is sick of the current format.

You can play Time Wizard format, which is where you get to play a past format in Yu-Gi-Oh! before it became what it is now. There is also Common Charity, which was a blast for players when it came to Master Duel. And an anime fan favorite, Deck Master. You know, the one season in Yu-Gi-Oh! where everyone got stuck in Virtual Reality and Tristan became a monkey.

Tristan Taylor Monkey Form

And again, some of these alternate formats have received additional information to help clarify a couple of things. If you want to take part in some of these formats, go check your local OTS and see if they will be doing one. If not, try persuading them to hold one. These formats can be a lot of fun. Especially if you’re looking for a new way to play Yu-Gi-Oh!

El Exordio gives us their take on Mathmech, using their brand new support card from POTE. This doesn’t push Mathmech to the competitive level, but it shows how they can be hit with some hand traps, shake it off and just keep walking.

If you’ve been looking to build the new World Premiere archetype, Ghoti, Duel Evolution has you covered with their take on the archetype. Definitely not competitive enough in today’s standard, but we’ll still need to wait to get the rest of the support before we can reach a conclusion.

For all of you anime/Bakura fans out there, Samuel Frew from TCGPlayer has made a deck that revolves around Bakura’s Diabound Kernel, the monster he used in the final arc of Yu-Gi-Oh! And it includes a few other cards Bakura has used throughout the anime. Like Change of Heart.

Conclusion

Thank you guys for reading this! I will say that the main highlights from this past week are definitely Power of the Elements reveals, and the announcement of the casual duel room for Master Duel. Sprights and Terlaments will definitely shake things up in the TCG metagame until players can really start to break it down. And the casual duel room is definitely a people pleaser. I really hope this keeps players interested in playing Yu-Gi-Oh! and lets them play the game how they want to play it.
